Random Acts of Kindness

Steve and I came home Friday afternoon to a beautiful Christmas bow on our mailbox. We were not quite sure if there was a Christmas elf or if Iggy (our dog) decided to decorate while we were gone. Then, we saw our neighbor decorating the mailbox a few houses down. So we walked over to her and said, "Are you responsible for the beautiful bow on our mailbox!?". She said yes, I had the day off and thought I would decorate the mailboxes on the street.

How nice is that?! I love our little town that we live in.

It's SNOWING in Sealy, TX!!

Amazingly it is snowing here today. Something that doesn't happen here often. Here are a couple of pictures. I used the race car trailer for a nice black background :) These are by far the biggest snowflakes I've ever seen. I guess everything is bigger in Texas?! Of course, that's coming from a girl from Louisiana who has never seen real snow.

Quilting

I got inspired after attending the International quilt festival in Houston. Here is my first quilted reversible table runner using the cotton theory method. It is Christmas on one side and mardi gras on the other.It is a quilt as you go. Basically you are assembling it with the batting and top stitching your quilt as you sew it. I fought with it a bit because the green fabric I used was a satin and kept raveling. You have to fold the seams and top stitch them. The more I folded the satin, the more it unravled causing every thing to shift and come out crooked in parts. Of course I had to make my first one challenging, I used satin and tapestry fabrics along with cotton. The next one I think I'll use all cotton. I'm sure it will be a breeze compared to this one. I think it turned out ok for my first one. A bit crooked. Oh well, you can't learn if you don't make mistakes.


Below is my first crooked nickel quilt. The theory here is to use a grid marked fusible webbing. Then, iron all of your pieces on it. Once they are ironed on, you just sew down the lines of the grid. Sounds easy. However, I found the quilt I made the traditional way of sewing one block at a time to be much easier. I fought a lot with trying to iron it and lay it out because I had to pair up two 45" pieces of the interfacing side by side to iron it on. It was very cumbersome.

Iggy cuddled with me while I wasn't feeling well. Of course he fell asleep, and I didn't. But it's the thought that counts....
Isn't he just the cutest boxer you've ever seen!?

He will contort himself and be very uncomfortable just to get some cuddle time. Here he is hugging Steve after a hard day's work.
And here he is in his favorite spot, my chair.


Since I have no kids, I have to take pictures of our cute son, Iggy and post them for everyone to see.
